Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. This year MES will celebrate Red Ribbon Week October 22-26. 
 
Red Ribbon Week serves as a vehicle for communities and individuals to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of our children through a commitment to drug prevention and education and a personal commitment to live drug free lives with the ultimate goal being the creation of drug free America.  
The week will include an assembly called ‘Drug Free from A-Z’ presented by all grade levels.  Also, each day there will be a special theme tied to Red Ribbon week.  
 
Monday:  “Let Your True Colors Shine!” (Wear your favorite colors or sequin clothing)
 
Tuesday: “Sock it to Drugs.” (Wear colorful or crazy socks)
 
Wednesday:  “Take a Stand for a Drug Free Land” (Wear red, white and blue)
 
Thursday:  “Tie One On Against Drugs” (Wear a tie to school)
 
Friday:  “Team up Against Drugs” (Wear our school color red)

YMS Science Fair

YMS Science Fair

Preparations for the YMS Science Fair have already begun! Students in 7th and 8th grade are getting final approval on their project ideas this week and will be moving on into the research stage of their projects shortly. They will be completing their procedures and conducting their experiments in the coming months. The YMS Science Fair is going to be held on December 2nd, 2011 at the Middle School. Last year we were able to take seven students to compete in the Northeast Colorado Regional Science Fair at NJC and two students then moved onto the Colorado Science and Engineering Fair at CSU in Fort Collins. This year Miss Bragan is hoping to double or even triple the number of students that move onto the Regional State Science Fairs! If you are interested in being an adult sponsor for one of our budding scientific minds or helping out with any part of the YMS Science Fair please feel free to email Miss Bragan at braganr@yumaschools.org.
