Due to the ongoing severe weather and dangerous road conditions, all activities for the Yuma School District will be cancelled and all schools will be closed, including the District Office, tomorrow, Thursday March 24rd, 2016 .
We remain under a blizzard warning until 12:00 am.
Please stay safe during the remainder of this storm.
After careful consideration and direct consultation with the National Weather Service out of Goodland, all activities for the Yuma School District will be cancelled and all schools will be closed, including the District Office, March 23rd, 2016 .
Please understand that we do not take this decision lightly and we understand that when school is cancelled we disrupt the learning schedules and home routines of students and families. Meteorologists at NOAA in Goodland have been very helpful in making this decision. They anticipate 6-9 inches of snow possible throughout the day, and limited visibility after sunrise with whiteout conditions by 9 under a blizzard warning throughout the day. As a district, we make the determination prior to 5:45am when busses begin their routes. In this event, the weather is expected to intensify after that time frame, therefore we are relying on the weather reports in this instance.
In the end, any decision to close school is based on one factor only: the safety of our students and staff.
Stay safe and warm today!
